SURGERY: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

SCHEDULING SURGERY

Prior to scheduling your surgery, you will need to complete a medical history form and sign a surgery consent form. Although POA will assist you to determine insurance coverage for your surgery, you are encouraged to contact your insurance provider about your specific benefits and coverage including those for anesthesia.

PREPARING FOR SURGERY

You are encouraged to contact your insurance provider in advance to confirm benefits and coverage for your surgery, including those for anesthesia. Remember to bring your insurance and prescription cards with you to the Ambulatory Surgery Center the day of surgery.

DAY OF SURGERY

Please arrive one hour prior to your scheduled surgery time. The person driving you home must check in with you at the front desk of the Ambulatory Surgery Center. POA requires you to be released to a family member or friend after surgery. Your ride should be available to pick you up 30 minutes before you are discharged from the Ambulatory Surgery Center.

ANESTHESIA

Anesthesia for outpatient surgery is customized so you are able to go home following your operation. At POA Ambulatory Surgery Center, our anesthesia specialists safely combine short-acting drugs with care tailored to your individual surgical needs. A member of your anesthesia care team is with you at all times during your surgery.

PAIN MANAGEMENT

There are generally two kinds of pain: acute and chronic. Acute pain is not long lasting. Your physician will help determine the source of pain and control or stop the pain with a customized treatment plan. Chronic pain is long lasting and more challenging to manage. Arthritis is an example of chronic pain.
