Advanced Orthopedic MRI Imaging
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses a powerful magnetic field and radio waves to produce detailed images of structures inside the body. Unlike X-rays, MRI is particularly useful for evaluating soft tissues and other structures that may not appear clearly on traditional radiographs.
For orthopedic patients, MRI imaging can provide detailed views of bones, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, and other soft tissues. Your physician may recommend an MRI to evaluate an injury, investigate persistent pain, confirm a diagnosis, or gather additional information before developing your treatment plan.
At Proliance Orthopedic Associates, diagnostic imaging is part of our comprehensive approach to orthopedic care. Our orthopedic specialists use your MRI results alongside your examination, symptoms, and medical history to develop a clearer understanding of your condition and recommend appropriate next steps.

What to Expect During Your MRI
MRI is a noninvasive imaging exam that uses magnetic and radio waves rather than ionizing radiation. During your exam, an MRI technologist will help position you comfortably on a table that moves into the MRI scanner. You will hear a series of knocking sounds as images are taken, and your technologist will remain in contact with you throughout the exam.
Depending on the area being examined, an MRI may take approximately 10 to 40 minutes. Staying relaxed and remaining still during the scan helps your care team obtain clear, detailed images.
Before your appointment, let your physician or MRI technologist know if you have a pacemaker, artificial heart valve, aneurysm clips, metallic implants or other metal in your body, or if you are or may be pregnant.
Preparing for Your MRI Appointment
Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled MRI appointment and wear comfortable clothing without metal buttons or zippers. Jewelry and other metal-containing items should be removed before your exam.
Unless your care team provides different instructions, you may generally eat, drink, and take your prescribed medications as usual before your MRI.
Some MRI examinations may require contrast to provide additional detail. Your care team will let you know if contrast or any other special preparation is necessary for your exam.
If your physician prescribes a sedative to help you feel more comfortable during your MRI, please arrange for someone to drive you home afterward.
