Learn About Cervical Disc Replacement

Proliance Orthopedic Associates

Cervical disc replacements help patients suffering from disease, injury, or herniated disc.

The neck region (or cervical spine) contains the first seven spinal bones (or vertebrae). These vertebrae protect nerves and your spinal cord. They also support your skull and provide head movement.

The vertebrae are cushioned by discs acting as pads to protect the vertebrae and allow spine movement. The outer portion of each disc is made of thick cartilage, while the inner portion is a watery, gel-like substance.

When cervical spine discs degenerate, the padding wears thin and vertebrae move closer to each other. This triggers neck and shoulder pain.

Common disc degeneration in the spine is a normal part of aging. But degenerative disc disease, injury, or a herniated disc can also result in deterioration.

The PRESTIGE® Cervical Disc is an artificial disc replacement designed to maintain motion for patients suffering from most degenerative cervical disc disease symptoms or acute unresolved cervical disc herniation.

VOA physician Dr. Jason Thompson is trained in artificial disc replacement. If you currently live with pain in your neck and non-surgical treatments are not helping, call POA to schedule a consultation with Dr. Thompson. 425-656-5060
