Know the outcomes of your total joint implant system

William P. Barrett, MD

Several factors affect the outcome of joint replacement surgery. Most important is the skill and experience of your surgeon. Next is the patient and his/her motivation. Thirdly, is the implant. There are joint registries around the world which track the performance of various implant systems. For our anterior hip replacements, we primarily use a Pinnacle Cup and Corail Femoral Stem.

The National Joint Registry of the United Kingdom reviews data from England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. In the 2018 data the Pinnacle/Corail system had a 42% reduced risk of revision when compared to all other cementless hip systems and a 12% reduced risk of revision when compared to cemented hip replacements. These best-in-class results give reassurance to patients and family for those undergoing hip replacement surgery. Read on to learn more about these successful options: Corail Pinnacle 2018 Results
