My Appearance on New Day Northwest: Advancing Hip and Knee Replacement Surgery
Written by: Dr. Timothy Alton

A Great Experience on New Day Northwest
I recently had the privilege of joining the King 5 talk show, New Day Northwest to discuss some of the exciting advancements in joint replacement surgery. It was a wonderful opportunity to share how modern techniques are helping patients achieve faster recoveries, less pain, and long-lasting results. I truly enjoyed the experience and am grateful for the chance to highlight how far we've come in orthopedic care.

Muscle-Sparing, Robotic Knee Replacement
One of the topics we discussed was the combination of robotic assistance with muscle- sparing surgical techniques for total knee replacement. This approach allows me to perform surgery with precision while protecting important soft tissues, leading to faster recovery and improved comfort for patients. Robotic technology also ensures accurate alignment and implant placement, which are key to long-term success.

Minimally Invasive Hip and Knee Surgery
Another exciting area we highlighted was minimally invasive hip and knee replacement surgery. By using smaller incisions and advanced approaches that avoid cutting major muscles, patients experience less pain, smaller scars, and a quicker return to daily life. These techniques reflect our commitment to making surgery as safe, effective, and patient- friendly as possible.

Same-Day Surgery at our Ambulatory Surgery Center
We also discussed the shift toward performing hip and knee replacements in our ambulatory surgery center (ASC). This setting allows many patients to go home the same day as their surgery to begin their recovery in the comfort of their own home environment. With careful preparation and modern surgical and anesthesia techniques, same-day surgery has become a safe and reliable option for many patients.

Improved Outcomes for Patients
Perhaps the most rewarding part of this work is seeing patients thrive after surgery. At one year, our patient satisfaction scores following hip and knee replacement have reached an impressive 96%, reflecting the positive impact of these innovations. My goal is always to restore mobility, reduce pain, and help patients get back to the activities they love—and it was exciting to share these results on New Day Northwest!
