Fall is full of educational opportunities for orthopedic surgeons, which makes it a busy time for teaching. Dr. Barrett is very involved in teaching the latest techniques of hip and knee replacement surgery to fellow orthopedic surgeons and physician assistants, and he stayed very busy this season!

Early in September, Dr. Barrett lectured at the “Arthroplasty for the Modern Surgeon” course in Sonoma, California. On September 14, he was part of the faculty for a course on revising failed total knee replacements, teaching the most up-to-date revision techniques. From September 27-28, he was on faculty for the ICJR Direct Anterior Approach Hip course in Houston, Texas. During the course he lectured on proper methodology for anterior hip replacement and guided surgeons in their technique, helping them with authentic practice on cadaveric specimens.

In October, doctor Barrett traveled to Rome, Italy, and presented as a guest lecturer for the Conservative Total Hip Arthroplasty Symposium, lecturing on the United States’ experience with the anterior approach to hip replacement.

November took Dr. Barrett to Dallas, Texas, for the Annual Meeting of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. Following that visit, he also participated in a conference organized by Chinese orthopedic surgeons whom he helped host at Valley Medical Center in Seattle, when they visited to observe him perform surgery.

During the last week of November, he moderated a meeting in Seattle on revision knee replacement that combined both lectures and labs to develop surgical skills with valuable practice on cadaver specimens.
